This thing is built tough, which is great, because we suspect it’s going to get a whole lotta use.

RIP, Uncle Jack Charles.

He was an incredible man, who’s kindness, warmth and compassion belied the cruelty of which he endured.

JR had the good fortune of working with Uncle for his 2018 @aklfestival season of Jack Charles Vs The Crown in @qtheatre.

Our condolences to his mob.

(👆🏼Swipe ). Sleek, modern, and in our favourite colour, BLACK!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤

These delicious new @global.truss trusses from @showquip have been installed into the Nelson School Of Music Auditorium as part of an ongoing lighting system upgrade.

Replacing the existing aluminum spans is the first step in bringing the rigging system up to a modern specification. Two more runs of truss are soon to be installed, along with eight D8+ motors.

As well as looking smart, these modern components represent an increase of safety and future efficiency - critical when suspending loads over head of performers and audience.

They also provide a reliable foundation on which to expand upon, whether that be by the venue, or productions, long into the future.

Thanks again to the Nelson School Of Music Endowment truss for opening the purse strings - keep ‘em loose, there is always more to do!!

@nick_davidsen was on the faders in a big way last week.

First up was his maiden plot-the-lights-during-two-rehearsals dance season for @petaspooneracademyofdance, after which it was straight on to the live stream audio mix for the Nelson Mayoral Candidate Debate.

Nick is working towards a Level 4 in Entertainment Technology apprenticeship with us, and has the chosen strands of sound engineering and lighting, so these gigs (among others) are solid milestones that represent his development curve.

He is a great team member with a cool head and is fast becoming a very excellent technician.

Love your mahi, Nick!!

We are incredibly proud to be sponsoring a further pair of perpetual backstage/tech trophies for the students of Nelson & Garin Colleges.

These VenueTech Cups will be awarded to students of any age to acknowledge their ‘outstanding contribution to backstage or technical theatre craft’.

We value the positive impact that high school drama rooms, halls and tech booths have as development grounds for the future of our industry, so are keen to support celebrating those rangitahi who dedicate so much of themselves to support their peers onstage.

What a joy, looking after the sound for the @jennymitchellmusic sisters trio at @boathousenelson.

Part of Jenny’s greater Tug Of War album release tour, Nelson was treated to an intimate evening of fresh material and beautiful harmonies.

If you’re in a bigger centre, you just might get to catch them in full band compliment.

Attendance is recommended!

Yeah, we’ve been a little quiet.

In the midst of the rain-induced rising rivers, sliding hills and congested roads; leaving space felt right, if not necessary.

We were (for the most part) unscathed, which makes us pretty lucky. Our thoughts go out to all those who were more heavily affected.

With the worst behind us, we’ll gently return to sharing our mahi, starting with this snap of Nicky-D tackling a re-paint of the Theatre Stage.

If you were wondering, we do this between 1-3 times a year, depending how beaten up it gets.

A typical year (which we’ve not experienced since 2019) would usually sit between 250-300 days in use.

Shout out to the Nelson School Of Music Endowment Trust for unlocking the funds to make this upgrade possible - along with a few more packages yet to arrive!.

Really looking forward to throwing some colour around the joint. What colours/combos would you like to see the stage lit up in?

The inaugural @commotion.youth.music.colab held over the weekend was AMAZING!!!
🎤🥁🎸🪗🎼🎧🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻

50 secondary students, and a raft of leading NZ and Whakatū music performers, song-writers, producers, engineers, administrators and all-round smarty-pants descended on NMIT’s G-Block for a dense programme of workshops, discussions, demo recording sessions and a showcase concert - the purpose - saturate the the minds of the next generation with practical advice, to arm them for success as musical artists.

The place was buzzing from start to finish, and it was an absolute pleasure to be invited along to look after the live room with some supplementary equipment, engineering, and run a couple of sessions on how performers can positively influence the quality of their live sound.

What a rad bunch, the whole lot, genuinely.
Go well to all the attendee’s in putting what you learned to effect, and Big-ups to Emily and Scott, for pulling this all together. Ka mau te wehi!

It’s fantastic to have this lot in, as perhaps Nelson’s most Covid-affected production, which has been repeatedly postponed since 2020! #knockitoff

We are incredibly proud to be sponsoring a further pair of perpetual backstage/tech trophies for the students of Nelson & Garin Colleges.

First run with the new NCMA lighting rig, and we couldn’t help but throw a couple of hues around.

Shout out to the Nelson School Of Music Endowment Trust for unlocking the funds to make this upgrade possible - along with a few more packages yet to arrive!.

Finally, a slither of down-time to make progress with the @nelsoncentreofmusicalarts lighting upgrade.

Really looking forward to throwing some colour around the joint. What colours/combos would you like to see the stage lit up in?
