Industry experience and education for the next generation

Gateway Work-Placement

The former VenueTech internship is now a recognised Gateway work placement program.

Gateway supports school students' transition into the workforce with structured workplace learning integrated alongside school-based education.

Students can apply to join our team as trainees, gaining practical experience supporting events at sites including The Theatre Royal and Nelson Centre of Musical Arts.

They are assessed in the workplace and can achieve credits on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) towards their National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA).

Learning outcomes

Students build core practical skills across various technical production disciplines, including live sound, stage lighting, rigging, video and projection and stage and production management.

Students experience a variety of performance styles and production approaches that the various community and professional touring crews bring with them.

Communication, reliability, time management, personal presentation, task completion, problem-solving, and teamwork strong themes within our work and are, therefore, positive attributes we promote and expect.
