JR Richardson Production Technician , Audio Engineer, Theatre technician, Technical Manager, Festivals, concerts, theatre, venues Educational Workshops

Tailored to your needs

My educational workshops cover a wide range of topics that can be pitched to any age, at any level of experience.

From basic overviews that introduce underlying concepts to beginners, through to advanced techniques that build on existing knowledge.

If you own (or are expected to use) sound or lighting equipment, I can teach you industry best practices so you can work safely, with confidence and extract the most of your setup.

I understand that every situation is unique, so whether you are an individual or large group; musicians, a theatre group or school students; experienced hands, or novices; I will tailor my delivery to your specific needs.

Once we have established your topic, scope, and complexity - Wind me up and let me go!

Venue

Where we run the workshop will depend on largely what we're covering.

Some subject matter only requires access to a projector and whiteboard, while others require practical exercises to be effective, so lighting or sound equipment will be required.

If you are seeking tuition specifically on your own equipment, or have access to technical facilities (i.e at your school or rehearsal space), then that would be the best venue for our workshop.

If required, I am also able to arrange access to a number of Nelson's professional performance venues including the Theatre Royal and Nelson Centre of Musical Arts.

Theatre Royal Crew Training Courses

As the Venue Technical Manager of the Theatre Royal, I was asked to develop a suite of crew training courses for non-professional users.

Courses are held onstage after work for the roles of Venue Stage Manager, Fly Operator and technicians.

They are affordably priced and open to members of the public who want to learn about the venue's systems and get involved backstage.
